Art directors design the visual side of advertising campaigns for all kinds of media including film, TV, web or print.
Employers will often expect you to have a foundation degree, higher national diploma or degree in: graphic design, advertising, design, illustration or fine art.
You'll usually need 1 or 2 A-Levels, or equivalent, for a foundation degree or higher national diploma. You'll need 2 to 3 A-Levels, or equivalent, for a degree.
Volunteering
You could get some experience before applying for your first job. This will give you a better understanding of the industry and is a good way to make useful contacts. You can contact agencies directly to ask about placements, and make industry contacts through relevant groups on social networking sites like LinkedIn. With experience, you could progress to senior art director or creative director. You could also work freelance or set up your own agency. Some art directors move into directing for TV or film.
Video editors bring together images and sound for use in film, TV and online productions.
Fine artists create original works of art using methods like painting, drawing and sculpture.
Technical textiles designers research, create and test textiles for use in healthcare, manufacturing and construction materials.
Fashion design assistants help designers to create new materials, styles, colours and patterns for fashion brands and labels.
Editorial assistants provide support at all stages of the publication process for books, journals, magazines and online content.
Cinema projectionists operate the equipment that shows films in cinemas.

Candidates will undertake four-weeks of employability workshops with Catch22, learning about the tech industry and employability skills, whilst networking and engaging in projects with other participants. During the workshops, participants attend a session run by Microsoft employees, where they will have the opportunity to ask them questions and hear about their careers so far.Following the four-week workshops, candidates will work with a tech-industry-specialist Career Coach to tailor their CVs, cover letters and interview skills, finding and applying for jobsapprenticeships within tech. Once participants are in employment, we offer in-work support for 6-months.ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: -Not in work or education-Between 18-30-Interested in techcomputer literate-Access to a computer or laptop to join the sessions
