Hello, I Am Laura
As soon as I looked at apprenticeships, I couldn’t believe I didn’t go for this earlier!
Tell us more about your experience
I was completely pushed in the
direction of university and for so long there was no other choice presented to
me. I knew it wasn't right for me, but it was so hard to break out of the
mould. To bide some time, I took a gap year and started researching apprenticeships. As soon as I looked, I couldn't believe I didn't go for this
earlier. I could get my degree with no debt and 3-4 years of work-based
experience. From that point I dedicated my time into securing an Apprenticeship
and have never looked back.
Within Vodafone I work as a Project
Manager in the customer delivery function focusing on Northern Europe. I am
currently dedicated to a customer account in the energy sector and manage
customer driven projects with a team of engineers and architects. I worked on
the expansion of a number of windfarm sites for a renewable energy customer.
This was my favourite project as I felt I was part of such a real positive change
and was able to learn so much about the industry and implications of renewable
redirection. I also volunteer within the Vodafone Youth Committee as my stream representative and have had so many
great moments interacting and encouraging new and incoming Apprentices
throughout their journey.
‘’ There are

Take some time, do some research and make sure to look around. If you find
something that interests you, why not go for it?’’
At A level, I studied STEM heavy
subjects and did well in school, because of this I was pushed to go to university
and made to think that anything else would be sub-par. Even when I listed the
benefits of apprenticeships in black and white people still told me it wasn't
the same or it wasn't good enough. At this point I had done so much research I
knew this wasn't the case and spoke to colleagues and recruiters who reassured
me the business attraction of practical experience over a university degree.
I have had so much support
throughout my apprenticeship and feel comfortable around a group of close
friends, colleagues, and a fantastic team. There was always room to be open and
ask for help which has proved valuable throughout my experience. My learning
provider delivers several support mechanisms. We have our teachers, skills coach
and the university team all at hand to support with any queries. The training
provider team provide the link between you and your studies and have
supported me in mapping my work, creating my portfolio and in unlocking top
