Our 27-month apprenticeship programme combines studying for your Civil Engineering Technician Level 3 apprenticeship, alongside working with our experienced and qualified team of Highways professionals. Whether you are meeting with the client to understand expectations or being onsite and operational, you’ll help us in delivering a full range of services on our key highways contract for Area 12 M&R which is £22.5 million contract for Highways England which covers Yorkshire and Humber road network.
As an Apprentice, every day will be different! One day, you might be in the office planning delivery of highway construction works, the next you may be on site helping coordinate installation of replacement drainage system! Your days could include the following:
- Attend/provide a work/project briefing at the start of the day
- Assist with planning & supervision of projects to ensure contractual compliance
- Support preparation of safe systems of works prior to work commencing
- Monitor projects and track their development and progress
- Monitor supply chain including reviewing their safe systems of work
- Maintain survey books as required
- Always taking responsibility for the safety of yourself be complying with Health and Safety legislation to protect the members of the public.

- GCSE Maths and English grade 9/A* - 4/C or equivalent.
As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a Level 3 in Civil Engineering Technician via our training partner, Learning Skills Partnership. You will be fully supported to achieve this qualification by attending 1-day per week remote training sessions, having 1-2-1 advice and support, e-learning materials, and a whole team of qualified professionals on hand for advice and technical knowledge at your depot.
You’ll be provided with a “buddy”, to assist you as you settle in. This is the person will be the friendly face when you join our Highways team – the go-to person that you will ask lots of questions to when you start! Once you have settled in, you will be allocated your mentor in the workplace. Your mentor will support you throughout your qualification, help you learn the technical skills and have regular catchups with you to ensure that you are on the way to become our next Apprentice superstar!
We keep our list of requirements short, but there are a few that you will need:
- Available to commence employment with Amey in September 2022
- The commitment and drive to complete your course and final assessment
- Passion to develop your skills both professionally and personally.
- Due to contractual requirements, you must be 18 years of age or above
- A full UK driving licence would be desirable, but not essential due to the nature of this role.
At the end of your Apprenticeship, you will move into a guaranteed permanent position with Amey, and your development does not stop there!
